First Headliners Announced for Bingley Weekender 2020

Primal Scream, The Libertines and Tom Walker are the first headliners announced the second instalment of Bingley Weekender taking place 4th-6th September 2020. Other performers confirmed for next year’s event include White Lies, The Amazons, Jade Bird and Peter Hook & The Light.

Primal Scream will headline Friday at Bingley Weekender 2020. The band formed in Glasgow back in 1982 but they are mostly associated with 90s Britpop thanks to their links to Creation Records founder Alan McGee.

The band’s breakthrough album ‘Screamadelica’ came out in 1991 and included some of Primal Scream’s biggest hits such as ‘Movin On Up’, ‘Come Together’ and ‘Loaded’. They are also famed for songs including ‘Country Girl’ and ‘Rocks’.

Bingley Weekender on the Friday is shaping up even more nicely due to the fact there will also be an appearance from Peter Hook & The Light playing tracks from Hook’s iconic previous bands Joy Division and New Order. Additionally, The Reytons will perform on this day of the festival. The Sheffield four-piece, managed by Scruff Of The Neck, are quickly becoming a sought after live act, with multiple dates on their Spring 2020 tour selling out.

As one of the UK’s most iconic indie bands, Saturday headliners The Libertines need little introduction. Co-Fronted by the charismatic duo of Pete Doherty and Carl Barât, tales of The Libertines are ingrained into indie folklore.

With tracks like ‘Can’t Stand Me Now’, ‘Time For Heroes’ and ‘Don’t Look Back Into The Sun’ in their arsenal, The Libertines are no strangers to producing festival ready bangers that you can raise your pint to. Additionally, they released a third album ‘Anthems For A Doomed Youth’ in 2015.

Directly below them on the billing are The Amazons, one of the UK’s largest indie rock breakthrough acts of the last few years. After their breakout eponymous debut album was released in 2017, containing hits like ‘Black Magic’ and ‘Junk Food Forever’, it became highest-charting rock debut since Royal Blood’s.

Hotly tipped songstress Jade Bird will also perform at Bingley Weekender on 5th September. Bird’s music is of a particularly bright and breezy disposition and she quickly gained exposure with the release of her 2018 single ‘Lottery’. Bird was a finalist on BBC’s Sound Of 2019 Poll and her self-titled debut album came out in April of the same year.

Sunday at Bingley Weekender is set to be just as jam-packed with even more brilliant artists. Tom Walker, a Scottish born singer-songwriter with a knack for writing lyrics and giving performances that strongly resonate with his burgeoning fanbase. Walker’s singles ‘Leave A Light On’ and ‘Just You and I’, have both gained heavy airplay.

Music fans get to see a varied lineup on the Sunday as cult indie group White Lies perform their influential breakout album ‘To Lose My Life’ in full which spawned tracks including ‘Death’ and ‘Farewell To The Fairground’.

Also attending are Hyde Park Brass. The Leeds-based brass band are a spectacle live. Their discography strongly leans into combining skillful musicianship and the infectious energy of EDM.

Bingley Weekender may only be in its second year. However, high calibre artists are able to come to the town thanks to the hard work of SSD Concerts. The promoter have allowed new festival to fill the void left by Bradford City Council who pulled the plug Bingley Music Live which was a popular, economy boosting music festival.

Steve Davis, Managing Director of SSD Concerts states, “We are delighted that last year’s event was so well received by the people of Bingley after they were let down by the cancelation of the ill fated Bingley Music Live. The challenge now is to supersede expectations and bring an event that does the people of the town justice and firmly puts Bingley on the Festival Map once again.”

More Bingley Weekender announcements are on the way. Comedy acts and over 50 more bands and artists are set to be added to the lineup in the near future. Bingley Weekender truly is looking like it’s going to be the biggest and best festival Bingley has seen yet!
